Social justice involves complex problems in need of fresh solutions and the application of new technologies. Internet Think Tank seeks to apply technology to generate social uplift.
Poverty is a global epidemic, afflicting developing and industrialized nations alike. Internet Think Tank is proud to have been a sponsor of the Villanova University Blockchain Hackathon, where multi-disciplinary teams of students from the various colleges across the university explored the potentials of blockchain as an emerging technology to disrupt poverty. While keeping global poverty in mind, students also looked to resolve deep poverty and promote economic development locally in Philadelphia.
Students learned from guest speakers why poverty is a persistent global challenge. Mentors of blockchain technology and those with experience addressing poverty also engaged with student teams to enrich knowledge sharing throughout the hackathon weekend.
The Internet Think Tank was one of the sponsors of the event, held at Villanova University's Idea Lab. This dynamic meeting focused on leveraging innovative solutions to fight poverty and promote economic uplift. Through collaboration and creativity, participants engaged in idea generation and presentations that led to the development of numerous impactful projects. Participants worked closely with mentors and industry experts to explore the transformative potential of blockchain technology.
More than 100 students and teachers took part in generating ideas and presentations over 3 days, resulting in numerous innovations designed to alleviate poverty and create economic improvements. Watch the documentary about the hackathon event.
