Satellite Technology Lecture at Philadelphia Central Library

The Free Library of Philadelphia’s Science & Wellness Department will host a lecture examining current practices in satellite development, commercial launch operations, and security frameworks. The session will be led by Hasshi Sudler, a faculty member in Villanova University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, on Tuesday, December 1, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Parkway Central Library, Room 202.

The lecture will address several engineering domains relevant to contemporary satellite systems:

• Satellite Development Processes   Discussion will include subsystem design, integration workflows, and testing methodologies used in small‑satellite and commercial‑class platforms. Attention will be given to hardware–software co‑design, reliability considerations, and constraints associated with low‑Earth‑orbit deployments.
• Commercial Launch Provider Interfaces   Sudler will outline technical interactions with launch providers such as SpaceX and Firefly Aerospace. Topics include payload qualification requirements, environmental testing, mission‑readiness procedures, and coordination between satellite teams and launch operations.
• Satellite Security and Threat Models   The lecture will cover security issues affecting orbital assets, including RF link vulnerabilities, spoofing and jamming threats, unauthorized command injection, and risks associated with distributed ground‑station networks. Sudler will also reference blockchain‑based approaches to authentication and data integrity, drawing from his 2023 testimony before the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Hasshi Sudler is Chairman and CEO of Internet Think Tank Corporation and a professor in Villanova University’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. His work spans internet technologies, digital piracy research, distance‑learning systems, cybersecurity, and blockchain architectures. He has contributed to publications on counterfeiting, illicit trade, and blockchain applications, and has received recognition from academic and professional organizations for research and leadership. Sudler holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Villanova University and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
